Mom of Nickelodeon star spotted on the streets reveals heartbreaking truth about his current condition
The mother of a former Nickelodeon actor who was recently spotted on the streets of Los Angeles has shared a sobering update amid growing public concern about her son’s wellbeing.
Tylor Chase, best known for playing Martin Qwerly on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, became the focus of widespread attention after a TikTok video showed him in a distressed state in California.
The clip quickly went viral, prompting an outpouring of concern from fans who remembered him from early 2000s children’s television.
Now 36, Chase also appeared in shows such as Everybody Hates Chris before stepping away from acting around 2011.
Since then, his public presence has largely been limited to poetry performances and YouTube content, where he has spoken openly about mental health struggles.
The viral TikTok was captioned: “This is so sad I ran into the guy who used to play on Nickelodeon I remember watching him as a kid. If anyone wants to donate, there is a GoFundMe online.”
Police address homelessness concerns
Following the video’s spread, the Riverside Police Department confirmed officers have had interactions with Chase but said there was no indication of criminal activity.
Public Information Officer Ryan Railsback told the Daily Mail: “We do not know how long he has been experiencing homelessness.
"During all of our interactions, he has been cordial and cooperative with our officers.”
Mother urges public not to donate money
Chase’s mother has previously spoken out to discourage donations to the GoFundMe campaign, stressing that financial support would not help her son’s situation.
“Money would not benefit him,” she said in messages shared by another TikTok creator in September.
“I have gotten him several phones, but he loses them within a day or two. He cannot manage money or his meds by himself.”
According to the TikToker, Chase’s mother has tried to provide housing, but ongoing substance use and mental health challenges have made long-term stability difficult.
She emphasized that medical care, not money, is what her son needs most.
“He is a good, sweet kid,” she added. “But he does need medical help.”
Tylor Chase responds to homelessness claims
Chase has since spoken directly to the Daily Mail, offering his own perspective and disputing claims that he is currently homeless.
“It’s not really like that,” he said.
“I have friends and family. I stay around here locally. My mom is here. I have a lot of good people helping me.”
He added that he has access to assistance programs and community support, describing it as “graceful charity” that has helped him get by.
Possible move to Georgia for housing support
Chase also revealed he is considering relocating to Georgia to be closer to his father and potentially enroll in a housing assistance program.
“I’m not really active homeless at this time,” he said.
“I would like to go see my dad relatively shortly… probably a housing assistance program in Georgia most likely.”
A familiar struggle among former child stars
Chase’s situation has renewed conversations about the pressures faced by former child actors.
Other Nickelodeon stars, including Amanda Bynes and Drake Bell, have also spoken publicly about mental health struggles and substance abuse in adulthood.
Fans continue to express concern and hope that Chase receives the professional support he needs moving forward.
